03 Nov 2006 Electricity supply upgrade
The upgrade involves four main changes: replacing the poles which carry the overhead cables, repositioning the overhead 11,000 volt cables to have a narrower spacing, replacing the bare copper lines with insulated cables, and replacing some overhead cables with underground cables. The overall effect should be to reduce the supply outages which can be caused by lightning strikes or interference from tree branches and squirrels, as well as improving the appearance of the villlage. The first stage of the upgrade has already been completed, from Andover down into Bransbury, and the next stretch from Bransbury through to Bullington start on Monday 6 November, taking up to two weeks. During this period the electricity supply for the area will be provided from seven temporary generators located around the parish, each covering a small part of the areas. As the generator for each area is connected there will be a period of about 15 minutes the electricity supply will be interrupted. The SSE Power Distribution crews working throughout the area will be using heavy lifting gear to move some of their equipment into place, but will aim to keep disruption to a minimum. For more information, you can contact Stuart Lowe, the Team Manager of the Operation Production Group who is leading the work, based at SSE's Totton office on 01730 232012.
