• 06/10/06 – Theft from vehicle parked at Plough Inn, Longparish

Special advice

Traditionally at this time of year as the clocks go back there is a strong likelihood burglaries could increase due to homes being left unoccupied and in darkness. The purpose of this message is not to cause alarm, but to advise householders to take sensible precautions and to enlist your help by reporting immediately any suspicious behaviour in your vicinity. In particular:

• Maintain security of the premises by ensuring access to the rear of the property is secured via a locked gate and sound boundary treatments are in place
• When leaving the property empty keep all windows, exterior doors, garages and sheds locked at all times
• Ensure security lighting is sited in such away it is tamperproof
• Use timer switches to ensure that your house is lit if it is unoccupied in the late afternoon or early evening
• Make a note of and report registration numbers and descriptions of any unfamiliar vehicles which appear suspicious
• Note any persons making cold calls at your home; descriptions of the individuals, their clothing and the reasons they give for calling
