Barton Stacey celebrates winning the Hantsweb 2002 award for the best parish council web site with a party in the village hall.

At the party - hosted by the parish council - the free bar and nibbles were enjoyed by around 50 people of all ages from the village.

Guests at the party included Rod Baulk, Hampshire County Councillor responsible for e-Government, and Stephan Chapman, webmaster for Hampshire County Council's Hantsweb.

Parish council chairman Sally Merison thanked webmaster Andy Glenister for his work and presented him with a token of appreciation, saying

We are all thrilled with the award.

Andy replied with thanks and said

The site aims to show that Barton Stacey has an active and lively community, and is a friendly, caring and supportive place to live. I welcome contributions to the site from any everyone.

Partygoers could try out a demonstration version of the web site running on a laptop computer.

Access to the internet in Barton Stacey is limited by the absence of broadband connections to the village, which is too far from the nearest telephone exchange at Sutton Scotney.
