In June 1997 I was asked if I would like to start a judo club in the village and I managed to scrounge enough mats to cover a small area of the village hall floor. After a leaflet drop, I had a list of six young people who had an interest in starting. I had hoped for about twelve but on the first night 28 youngsters turned up and none of them had ever practiced judo before!!
The club had been running for 5 months and we entered our first competition. Other Senseis congratulated us on our first efforts and out of twelve competing clubs we achieved a marvellous 4th place.
